What is the Konjac Sponge?
First of all you need to know that Konjac is a potato like plant (same family as taro) that is cultivated in Asia and is a staple in Japanese cuisine for being low in calories but super rich in fibres. It has been used for over 1500 years as a food source but also for its health properties in medicine and beauty care. The plant is alkaline which will leave skin perfectly balanced too! The Konjac sponge company has lovingly hand blended the plant fibre with volcanic water to create the 100% biodegradable sponges and to that, they have added French clays, Bamboo charcoal or even green tea to their sponges to make them extra special and to suit different skin needs.
What does it do?
The sponge does wonder to your skin and comes in different shapes and you can also buy one for the body. It's extremely gentle on the skin but yet gives a perfect cleansing while boosting blood circulation and helping dead skin cells turnover. Because of its nature and texture, it's also suitable for baby skin.
How to use it?
When you take it out of its package, the sponge will he hard. But don't be worried, all you need to do is soak it under warm water until it has become puffy and squishy. Use it in a circular motion around your face to stimulate and encourage skin renewal.
Why I love it?
The first time I used it I was pleasantly surprised at how well it cleansed my skin and how refreshed I felt. I find the sponge texture very soothing. You can use it with your cleanser and it will help your cleanser work a little bit deeper. I prefer to use my sponge every morning with no cleanser as I think it does a very good job on its own. My skin texture has definitely improved and my pores looking smaller.
The Konjac Sponge Pure white facial puff is suitable for any skin types.
The sponge has a net like structure in a dome shape and is approximately 8cm.
It has a string for drying it faster.
Let the sponge soak in warm water (you can just run it under the tap. This was just for picture purpose) until it has absorb some water and is all puffy and soft
Your sponge is now all soft and ready to use
After couple of use, your sponge will look like it shrunk like the one on the picture. It won't regain its initial hard round shape. This is totally normal. When you wet the sponge, it will become puffy and soft and ready to use all over again.
How to care for your sponge?
Because it's made out of natural fibres, with good care, the sponge can last up to 3 months. I have read reviews where the sponges have last for nearly 2 years, depending on how often you use it and how well you keep it. Here are my top tips:
* First of all, never use the sponge dry (an obvious one but just in case...)
* After each use, make sure you squeeze out all the water out of your sponge and if you used a cleanser, rinse the sponge well until no product left inside sponge. You can use a towel to squeeze out water.
* Between each use, let the sponge completely air dry. Don't leave it in the bathroom or somewhere humid. You can hang over the radiator.
